WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) — Police say a gas line rupture Wednesday closed roads and forced the evacuation of several homes in part of Washington Township in Gloucester County, New Jersey.

Washington Township Police posted a notice about the closures at 12:20 p.m.

They said homes on Mulberry, Benner and Pembrook Road between Egg Harbor Road and Beachwood Drive were evacuated. Pembrook Road is closed while utilities work in the area.

A temporary shelter has been set up at the Washington Township Senior Center at 315 Greentree Road.

The South Jersey Gas Fire Department is on scene and is working to seal the leak.
