Motorists on Interstate Highway 44 north of Wichita Falls should expect traffic congestion in the coming days due to major roadwork by road crews, officials said.
The Texas Department of Transportation said two lanes will be closed starting Tuesday for concrete repairs on two miles of the northbound freeway between Old Iowa Park Road and the Spur 325 interchange.
“Unlike hot-mix asphalt roadways, concrete cracks must be cut out of the lane with a concrete saw, and crews then pour a new slab over the repair,” TxDOT said in a news release.
It can take 24 to 48 hours for the concrete to harden, and as a result, drivers can expect congestion.
“Residents are encouraged to find an alternative route to avoid traffic during rush hour,” the press release said.
