Oakland police warned the public Wednesday about robbers posing as police officers and breaking into homes.
According to Oakland police, there were two recent home invasions in East Oakland in which suspects in plain clothes verbally identified themselves as police officers.
“In several recent cases, one to four unknown suspects have entered homes, searched victims and demanded items from them. When confronted or questioned about their identity, the suspects yell ‘OPD’ and in another incident yelled ‘police’ as they entered the home,” police said.
According to police, detectives are investigating this trend and additional officers have been deployed to various parts of the city.
Below are tips from the Oakland Police Department:
- OPD officers will knock on your door and announce their presence.
- OPD officers wear clothing that identifies them as law enforcement officers.
- Plainclothes officers from the OPD do not enter homes.
- Do not resist.
- Trust your instincts. When in doubt, call 911.
Anyone who has been victimized in a similar manner or has information regarding any of these cases is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department at (510) 238-3326.
