Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy has undergone a second surgery on his injured right knee.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed the procedure during a call with reporters on Wednesday.
McCarthy, who was selected by the Vikings with the No. 10 pick in April’s NFL draft, initially had surgery in August to repair the meniscus in his right knee. The procedure sidelined him for his entire rookie season. McCarthy suffered the injury in his preseason debut.
The second surgery was to address swelling in his knee as he has resumed activities after his first surgery. According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, McCarthy received a biological injection as part of the second procedure.
According to O’Connell, McCarthy’s timeline for return remains the same. His initial projection put him on track to be ready for the 2025 season.
