Oct. 4—MEXICO — A Rumford man was arrested Thursday, accused of sexually assaulting a 69-year-old woman at her home in Mexico.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office has charged 47-year-old Mark Sturtevant with aggravated sexual assault, Maj. Dana Thompson of the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release Friday.
Sturtevant was taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris, where he remained held Friday on $20,000 bail, a corrections official said.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, police were called to a home in Mexico for a report of a sexual assault. The victim was taken to Rumford Hospital where she was evaluated, treated and later released, police said.
In addition to the assault, the woman also suffered bruises and abrasions, according to the statement.
Police said Sturtevant and the woman met earlier in the evening.
“This is an isolated incident,” the release said, “and the victim and suspect met in a public setting prior to the attack.”
According to court records, Sturtevant was recently convicted of domestic violence in connection with an incident reported in September 2022. He was sentenced to six months in prison, but the sentence was suspended and Sturtevant was placed on probation.
The case is still under investigation. Police are asking anyone with relevant information to contact the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office at 207-743-9554.
