MINNEAPOLIS— On Sunday morning, 20,000 runners will complete the 26.2-mile course during the Twin Cities Marathon.
It will be the first running of the marathon since 2022. Last year’s race was canceled just hours before the starting gun due to unsafe heat.
“Last year just the cancellation was a letdown for many of us,” said one runner. “So feeling this course with these winds and the low temperatures, it just felt great.”
“This is ideal,” said Twin Cities in Motion Chairman Dean Orton. “The humidity is nice and low. We have sun, sometimes runners like a bit of cloud, but the conditions are ideal.”
Orton said this year was about being prepared for the worst and learning from last year.
“We were getting ready for red, but when we knew it was coming, we had to step up over the last two weeks as soon as that weather presented itself,” Orton said. “Now we are simply deploying the resources at red.”
Four thousand volunteers and hundreds of doctors to help more than 20,000 people achieve their best performance ever.
“It feels great. Again, I’m so happy for everyone working hard to put it on,” Orton said. “To see it all come together, that’s why we do it.”
Sunday’s events starts at 7:00 am with the 10 mile run. The marathon starts at 8 a.m. in downtown Minneapolis.
