KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A Russian drone strike killed a teenager in Kiev during a nighttime barrage on the Ukrainian capital that lasted hours, local officials said, while three people were reportedly killed in a rocket attack on central Ukraine that killed at least 20 injured.
According to Kiev Mayor Vitalii Klitschko, the drone crashed into a 25-storey apartment building in the west of the city on Friday evening, killing a 15-year-old girl and injuring five others. Ukraine’s emergency service said 100 people were evacuated after the strike, which damaged several apartments on the upper floors of the building.
Serhii Popko, head of Kiev’s local military administration, said on Saturday that Russian forces shelled the city for seven and a half hours during the night. Air raid sirens blared throughout the night, and Popko said Ukrainian air defenses had shot down “up to a dozen” Russian drones.
Also late Friday, a Russian missile hit a residential area in the central city of Dnipro, killing a 14-year-old and two adult women, regional governor Serhii Lysak said, adding that at least 20 others were injured, including an 8-year-old and teenagers. He said the attack damaged 13 apartment buildings, private homes and a medical facility.
