Amber Rutter has been named in the British shooting team for the Paris Olympics two months after giving birth.

The 26-year-old former world champion welcomed her first child, Tommy, on April 25.

Rutter, who competed under her maiden name Hill at Rio 2016, missed the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after contracting Covid-19 on the eve of the Games.

She considered quitting the sport after the disappointment, but will now compete in her second Olympic Games.

“I’m very excited,” Rutter told BBC Sport.

“That phone call and the confirmation that I am part of the team for Paris 2024 is a great feeling.”

Rutter said going to Paris was “always planned” but a decision on her participation could only be made after the birth of her child.

Because Tommy is still so young, Rutter’s husband will remain in the UK with their newborn baby while she competes in the skeet tournament in France.

Rutter said taking the family to Paris would have been a distraction.

“I just know that it’s just not the right thing for performance because as soon as Tommy cries, my thoughts are completely with him and I literally take care of everything he needs,” said Rutter, a four-time European Championship gold medalist.

“So we decided he won’t be there, but we’ll have a lot of parties and stuff when I come back.”

Former world champion Seonaid McIntosh has been selected for the mixed air rifle team along with Michael Bargeron, while the rest of the team consists of the trio of Matt Coward-Holley, Nathan Hales and Lucy Hall.
