Sabers Forward could be an interesting trading chip

The Buffalo Sabers have started the season very poorly. They have lost each of their first three games in regular regulation and have already set themselves a challenge.

If this trend continues and they get out of the playoff race again this season, they could be sellers. Looking at their current roster, one player who could be a solid trade in this scenario is winger Jordan Greenway.

Greenway is now in the final season of his current contract and is a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA). So he could become a decent trade chip for the Sabres. This is especially true when you consider that he is a big, physical forward who performs well in the bottom six.

Greenway was also the subject of trade speculation near the 2024 NHL trade deadline. The Sabers also added a string of fellow bottom-six forwards this offseason such as Sam Lafferty, Jason Zucker, Ryan McLeod, Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Beck Malenstyn. So it is fair to wonder whether Greenway can be made replaceable for the right price.

Greenway could also be a solid NHL-caliber player that the Sabers could include in a trade package to land a legitimate top-six forward. Their offensive struggles out of the gate show that they undoubtedly need one.

Still, it will be interesting to see what happens with Greenway this season. Considering he was previously in the rumor mill and is now in the final season of his contract, he could be a player to keep an eye on.
