This game was the Sabers job to lose, and they ultimately threw it away. The Sabers had a commanding 3-0 lead in the second period, a 4-2 lead early in the third, and then a 5-3 lead with less than four minutes remaining. However, the Sabers gave up two unanswered goals during the final minutes of the third, including Jonathan Drouin’s tying goal with eight seconds left.
From there, Devon Toews scored the OT winner to complete the Avalanche’s remarkable comeback and the Sabres’ epic collapse.
This loss is just the latest brutal loss for a Sabers club desperately trying to get their season back on track. With this loss, they now have a record of 14-20-5 and remain at the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings.
