The Buffalo Sabres have had a busy offseason, but it’s fair to say they could benefit from making one more addition. Looking at their forward group, it’s clear they could use some help on the left flank. With most of this year’s top free agents now home, the best options for the Sabres are likely to come via the trade market.

When looking at potential trade targets for the 2024-25 season, one interesting player who could be a logical option for the Sabres is St. Louis Blues forward Brandon Saad.
Saad, 31, made waves earlier this summer when he was rumored to be available for trade. While the Blues have yet to move him, there’s a good chance they could do so before the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline. If the Blues fall out of the playoffs again this campaign, that would open the door to hearing offers for him.
With the Sabres in need of a boost in their middle six, Saad has the potential to be an excellent addition to their group. During this past season with the Blues, the 2011 second-round pick had 26 goals and 42 points. With numbers like these, he would certainly give the Sabres more scoring power and would be a nice addition to their power play.
Another nice element about Saad is that he would be more than a rental, as he carries a $4.5 million cap hit through the end of the 2025-26 season. However, he also has a full no-trade clause, so he should be the green light for any move, whether it’s to the Sabres or another club.
However, the Sabres need more offense and will need to keep a close eye on Saad this season.
