(FOX40.COM) – Memorial Day has finally arrived and agencies across Sacramento are reminding residents to prioritize safety as they enjoy their three-day weekend.
Sacramento Metro Fire shared some “firetastic” tips on social media to help families across the region stay safe.

“Grillmaster do’s and don’ts,” said Metro Fire on : Use gasoline to light your charcoal. Sure, it causes a fire, but it’s the kind that requires a fire truck, not a spatula.”
Metro Fire continued to remind everyone to watch for children around pools, designate a “water keeper” and avoid diving into the shallow end. “Trust us, your head and the pool floor will thank us.”
For those planning to spend time on the American River or any other waterway in the area, wear a life jacket even if you are a good swimmer. “The current and snags of the river can be sneaky, and we want you to stay afloat and not crash,” Metro Fire said.
The agency also says mixing alcohol with river activities is not a good idea. “Save the drinks for home – no one wants to see your epic belly flop turn into a rescue mission.”

Finally, Metro Fire said residents should remember that roasting marshmallows on a fire pit is a safe activity that involves fire, but lighting fireworks is not. “California says no, and so does your insurance policy.”
Metro Fire had one more comment before concluding his social media post: “Stay safe, stay great and remember, the only warm thing this weekend should be the weather!”
