The owner of a San Gabriel wig shop is considering closing the store for good after being targeted by burglars several times in recent months.

Surveillance footage shows two suspects throwing a metal dumbbell against the glass of Terry’s Wigs on Monday morning before using crowbars to enlarge a hole in the window.

Margarita Torres, who has been in the business for more than thirty years, thinks that this time the suspects must have visited the store in advance, because they immediately went for the most expensive wigs upon entering.

She says her whole motivation behind running the wig shop is to “do good” and “help people,” especially since most of her clientele isn’t just looking for a new hairstyle.

“I have a passion for making wigs,” Torres said. “I like to help my clients, especially if they have cancer.”

Despite this, Torres says she has been burglarized several times in recent months, causing her insurance premium to increase drastically due to repeated claims.

“I almost wanted to close my business,” she said. “You get scared because you think what might happen if they come when I’m here.”

She is demanding change in the area and raising her voice for all businesses in the San Gabriel Valley who are victims of similar crimes.

“Get more police officers on the streets,” she said, before noting that she is confident Los Angeles County’s new district attorney, Nathan Hochman, will help hold people accountable for their actions. ‘I met him. He knows my situation.’

San Gabriel Police have filed a report on the most recent burglary and are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact them.
