A San Jose man suspected of more than 110 shoplifting incidents since March has been arrested on grand larceny charges, police said.

The department announced Monday that 41-year-old Johnny Pena was arrested on Oct. 28 and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Pena was arrested following an investigation into 113 shoplifting incidents that have occurred in San Jose since March.

“This is an example of someone who has a blatant disregard for the law and has victimized over a hundred businesses here in San Jose,” said Police Chief Paul Joseph. “Our Organized Retail Theft Detail has done a great job making sure suspects like Johnny Pena know what happens when they commit these crime sprees in our city.”

According to police, Pena allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from several retail businesses, including Home Depot, Lowe’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Target.

Police said the investigation was made possible by the department’s Retail Theft Detail, which is funded by an $8.4 million grant from the California Board of State and Community Corrections.

“I want to thank our police department’s Organized Retail Theft Detail for their commitment and use of available resources to hold bad actors accountable,” said Mayor Matt Mahan.

Jail records show Pena is being held without bail.

Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to reach Detective David Moody of the San Jose Police Department by email or by calling 408-277-4166.
