A driver was ejected from his vehicle and killed in a crash in the Nichols area on Friday.
Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a single-vehicle crash on Pee Dee Highway between Highway 917 and Lake Swamp Road around 10:12 p.m., according to a Facebook post from the fire department.
The vehicle overturned and the driver was thrown from the vehicle, the post said.
Abron Stroud, 47, of Nichols, died in the wreck, Horry County Deputy Chief Coroner Tamara Willard said in an email.
Stroud’s vehicle went off the road and he overcorrected, causing his vehicle to roll over, Willard said. Stroud was not wearing his seat belt; he suffered blunt force trauma and died at the scene.
A passenger was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to an email from Cpl. David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
