SC man went back to the store to buy a striking lottery ticket and won the game’s top prize

A scratch-off ticket caught the attention of an Upstate man, but he didn’t immediately buy the game.

South Carolina Education Lottery officials said the man left the gas station/convenience store empty-handed but couldn’t stop thinking about the Carolina Cash game and eventually returned to the Lowry Food Mart in Seneca to see if the scratcher was still available.

He bought the $10 ticket and it turned out to be a grand prize winner as the man revealed a $300,000 jackpot, officials said in a news release Tuesday.

The man said he will spend his new windfall on the purchase of a new home, according to the press release.

The winner is allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states – along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia – where lottery winners can remain anonymous. .

It was the last of six top prizes in the now-ended Carolina Cash game, officials said.

According to the publication, the odds of winning the six-figure top prize in the Carolina Cash game were 1 in 840,000.

Lowry Food Mart received a $3,000 commission for the sale of the claimed ticket, according to the release.
