South Carolina authorities are searching for a man wanted for murder and are advising the public to remain vigilant.
Chapin police are working with the U.S. Marshal Service to locate Nicholas Wayne Hamlett, who is wanted for murder, of Tennessee, according to a news release.
Hamlett reportedly has family in the Chapin area and was last seen near Chapin High School and Generations of Chapin near 431 East Boundary St. early Friday morning.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, converged on the area and set up a perimeter using a helicopter and K-9s, but to no avail.
Police say as they continue to search for Hamlett, the public should “exercise extreme caution” in the Chapin area.
“There continues to be a strong law enforcement presence in the city of Chapin, and this presence will continue until the suspect is apprehended or confirmed to be no longer in the area,” Chapin Police Chief Thomas Griffin said in the news release .
Anyone who sees anything suspicious or has information about Hamlett’s whereabouts is urged to call 911.
Griffin recommended keeping the public informed through the Chapin Police Department Facebook page.
