Seahawks open season in retro uniforms

The Seahawks will wear their old uniforms during their season opener against the Broncos on Sunday at Lumen Field, the team announced Monday.

The references to the past reflect the importance of the 1990s, not only to the organization, but also to the city of Seattle.

The Seahawks wore the uniforms from their inaugural season of 1976 until the end of the 2001 season. The uniform combination consists of the classic silver helmet, royal blue and apple green jerseys, and silver pants.

The throwbacks made their debut last season in a Week 8 win over the Browns at Lumen Field. The Seahawks pulled off a comeback win over the Browns thanks to a late touchdown reception by Jaxon Smith-Njigba that put Seattle on top 24-20.

The Seahawks also wore them last season in an away game against the Cowboys.

The season opener will be the first of two times the Seahawks will wear the old uniforms this year. They will be worn again when Seattle takes on the 49ers, their division rival, on Thursday Night Football in Week 6 at Lumen Field.
