The search for a missing swimmer near Sanibel Island, which has prompted action by local and national authorities, is entering its third day.

Officer Bradley Johnson, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said Tuesday that they were assisting the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Sanibel police in the search for a missing swimmer at Blind Pass Beach.

While Sanibel police are leading the search, Lee County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jessie Santero said they have been assisted by several marine and aviation units.

Eric Jackson, a city spokesman, said two swimmers were rescued while the search for a third swimmer continued. He declined to identify the missing swimmer.
