The search for a woman who fell from a Taylor Swift-themed cruise ship in the Bahamas was suspended Wednesday, a day after she entered the water, officials said.
The U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday afternoon that the Royal Bahamas Defense Force has suspended its search pending new developments, and that it no longer requires Coast Guard assistance.
The 66-year-old woman, a passenger on the Royal Caribbean ship Allure of the Seas, is believed to have gone overboard Tuesday around 9:40 p.m., when the ship was about 17 miles (27 kilometers) from Nassau, the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard said it sent an HC-144 aircraft and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to help.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said an immediate search and rescue operation was launched for the passenger and they are working with local authorities.
“We are also providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “To respect the privacy of our guest’s family, we have no additional details to share.”
A few hundred Swifties left Miami on Monday with Allure of the Seas as part of a fan-led cruise group called “In my cruise era.”
The trip, which is not affiliated with Swift, was organized by travel agents Jessica Malerman, Nicole Rivera and Shelby Reyes of Marvelous Mouse Travels. According to the group’s website, the trio partnered with Royal Caribbean to host private events centered around Swift and her Eras Tour. Events include a welcome cocktail party, karaoke, friendship bracelet exchanges, “Taylor Trivia” and “Nightly eras outfit themes.”
It is not clear whether the woman who went overboard was part of the group.
The Allure of the Seas has 18 decks and can accommodate more than 6,800 guests. It is 380 meters long and the maiden voyage took place in 2010, the cruise line said.
