A second teen has been arrested and a third has been identified in the Dilworth Park ice skating rink shooting last week in Philadelphia, three teenagers were injured, according to police.
The 14-year-old was arrested Wednesday morning and police have issued an arrest warrant for a third 14-year-old, Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said at a news conference. Vanore said police are still working to identify others involved.
Police arrested a 14-year-old boy on Friday after the shooting in the neighborhood Rothman Orthopedics Ice Rink in Center City.
According to the police, shots were fired after an argument broke out between the young people next to the ice rink on Friday around 4:30 p.m.
“It’s a lot of violence because of an argument. Ultimately, we now know that we are harassing someone’s brother,” Vanore said. “This developed into a major tragedy.”
Three teenagers were injured in the shooting, which seriously injured a 14-year-old. Vanore said on Wednesday that the 14-year-old victim was in hospital in critical condition.
Vanore said the victim has undergone several surgeries and is believed to have lost his eye.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for a third 14-year-old involved in the shooting. The deputy commissioner said they are “actively searching” for the teen.
The teens are charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy and related crimes, Vanore said.
The Rothman Orthopedics Ice Rink is a popular winter destination in Center City, offering skating sessions seven days a week.
The rink is near Philadelphia’s Christmas Village, an annual holiday market in Love Park and City Hall.
