Second teen charged in murder of popular KC chef Shaun Brady

A second juvenile has been charged with murder in connection with Wednesday’s fatal shooting of popular chef and restaurant owner Shaun Brady.

Brady, co-owner of East Brookside Irish restaurant Brady & Fox, was taking out trash outside his restaurant Wednesday night when he became involved in a deadly confrontation with several minors around a car. Brady suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police said, and died at a local hospital shortly after the shooting.

The teenage boy, who has not been publicly named, was charged with second-degree murder and attempted robbery, both felonies. Both charges were filed Friday in Jackson County Juvenile Court, spokesman Scott Lauck said.

A second teenage boy was charged Thursday in Jackson County Family Court with second-degree murder, attempted grand theft auto and unlawful use of a weapon.

Both teens, whose names have not been released publicly due to their ages, were arrested within an hour of the shooting.

Mandatory certification hearings will follow to determine whether the teens will be tried as adults.
