According to Montgomery County District Attorney Mat Heck Jr., Antawan Benson Jr., 23, and Javen Conner, 19, used high-powered rifles to target the home next door to Carlos’s in the 30 block of W Fairview.

“Senseless, horrible, shocking,” Heck said.

As he spoke about this case, Heck could not contain his anger and sadness that a young girl, who had a good night’s sleep before school, did not make it the next day.

“It’s just so horrible, it’s just indescribable, but a 12-year-old girl with her whole life, grade 7,” Heck said.

A Montgomery County grand jury on Monday approved nearly a dozen indictments against Benson and Conner. They each face the following charges:

  • Two counts of murder

  • Three charges of improperly discharging a firearm in or at a residence

  • Three counts of assault (with deadly weapon)

  • One case of firing a firearm on a road

  • One charge of serious threats

  • All charges carry a three-year firearms requirement

Benson was also charged with two counts of possession of a firearm while on disability benefits.

Heck said the shooting stemmed from a social media feud the men got involved in.

“And when they fire off tons of bullets like this, okay, with assault rifles, they have no idea where they’re shooting,” Heck said.

In all, three homes were hit by gunfire. News Center 7’s Mike Campbell went to Fairview Avenue and saw a dozen bullet holes in the home the prosecutor claimed was the target.

Carlos’ father, Michael Nooks, said the situation was a nightmare, but he is glad police are confident they have arrested everyone involved.

“I mean, it’s extremely stupid. Extremely. I still expect to see her in the morning and, and normal day-to-day things, it’s tough,” Nooks said.

Benson and Conner are being held without bail in the Montgomery County Jail and are scheduled to appear in court later this week.
