SEPTA and Transportation Workers Union Local 234the transportation agency’s largest union, has reached a tentative labor agreement that could avert a strike, members of both parties tell CBS News Philadelphia.

Members of TWU 234 have worked without a contract. The members had voted to authorize a strike but continued to negotiate with SEPTA. The union wants a long-term agreement with wage increases, while SEPTA had wanted a one-year contract extension.
Terms of the tentative agreement were not immediately released.
Negotiations continue between SEPTA and Smart Local 1594, which represents bus, trolley and train operators in the suburbs.
