Police in Sebastopol received an unusual call Thursday about a small piglet going wild in a North Bay neighborhood.

The department posted on its Facebook page Thursday afternoon about the pursuit of the piglet. Police received multiple calls reporting the piglet running in and out of the roadway on the 800 block of Gravenstein Highway North.

Arriving officers found the described piglet, which “appeared to be very fast and strong for an animal of its size.”

The body camera footage recorded in the study showed that tracking down the piglet was not an easy task.

Police received help from bystanders as they chased the piglet for several city blocks until they finally cornered and captured the animal in a side yard on Soll Court. The pig, which police later learned was named “Pickles,” was reunited with its owner at the scene.

“Officers Whitehall and Thomas used discretion and chose not to charge “Pickles” with resisting a peace officer,” the Facebook post said.

Police thanked the piglet’s mother and all residents of Sevastopol, including the man who actually took the piglet, identified as Michael W.
