RICE COUNTY, Minn. — Several adults and youth were rescued from the Cannon River after several kayaks and canoes capsized.

Officials say a group of three adults and six juveniles were traveling across the river from Two Rivers Park in Faribault to Northfield.

While on the water, two of the canoes became entangled in fallen trees in the water, causing the canoes to capsize. A youth in a kayak tried to help one of the canoes but capsized himself.

Everyone involved was able to cling to the downed forest until they could be rescued by first responders. Everyone was wearing a life jacket at the time.

No one reported injuries.

As Minnesotans head into summer, officials want people to remember to stay safe on the water. For more information, visit the Minnesota DNR boat and water safety page.
