Severe storms are possible across Southeast Michigan on Thursday

(CBS DETROIT) – All Southeast Michigan communities are at risk for severe weather Thursday.

Counties including Washtenaw, Livingston, Monroe, Lenawee and Oakland are partially or completely at low risk, highlighted in yellow in the image below (level 2 of 5). Other areas are still at risk of severe storms, but the risk is marginal (level 1 of 5).

We can expect storms in Southeast Michigan as early as Thursday afternoon. However, the greatest chance of powerful to heavy storms occurs in the evening. The showers and storms will decrease during the night.

Before the main line of storms we may experience a quick flare-up of a strong but fast storm. The more robust storms look to move toward Southeast Michigan around 5 p.m. and last until about 10 p.m.

We can expect some of the biggest weather hazards from these storms: high winds over 60 miles per hour and large hail with a diameter of one inch or more. Given the chance of severe weather on Thursday, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

After the storm threat on Thursday, prepare for extreme heat. Temperatures will climb well into the 90s on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It will also be humid, so the wind chill index numbers for those days will jump into the upper 90s, if not into the triple digits. I don’t think we will break records for those days, but it will remain extremely warm.
