The door is open for veteran edge rusher Shaq Barrett to play before the 2024 season is over.
The Dolphins removed Barrett from the reserve/retired list on Thursday and he would be ineligible to play if claimed because he was on the retired list. However, the NFL’s transaction report for Friday shows he was unclaimed, meaning he could sign with any team and play before the year is out.
Barrett’s past production likely makes that a real possibility for a team looking to shore up its pass rush for the postseason. Barrett has 59 career sacks in 131 career games with the Broncos and Buccaneers.
Barrett signed with the Dolphins as a free agent this offseason, but he opted out over the summer and never played in a game with the team.
