Sheriff’s Office warns of Montgomery County courtroom scams

A local sheriff’s office has warned people about scam phone calls from people posing as police officers.

According to Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck, there have been multiple calls in Montgomery County claiming to be “Sergeant Fashion” or “Sergeant Sullivan.”

The caller tells people that they have failed to appear in court and that they must pay or an arrest warrant will be issued.

“These scammers can be very convincing and while it is easy in hindsight to blame the victims, keep in mind that these ruthless scammers are very successful in targeting people from all walks of life and age groups,” said Sheriff Rob Streck.

The caller also copies phone numbers to make them appear legitimate on caller ID, Streck said.

The sheriff said he would never call anyone asking for payment.
