Shooting in El Rio ends fatally

A shooting reported Sunday morning in El Rio turned fatal, authorities said.

Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies responded shortly before 3 a.m. to the 1000 block of Collins Street in the unincorporated community on the north side of Highway 101. The scene is west of Rose Avenue.

A 23-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound, sheriff’s officials said in a news release. Officers rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he later died.

The victim’s name was not immediately released. He was believed to be from the El Rio area, officials said.

No arrests had been reported as of Sunday evening.
