Shots fired in East Boston tear through teen’s bedroom wall

EAST BOSTON – It was a tense event for an East Boston teenager Thursday night when gunshots rang out in his neighborhood and a bullet went through his bedroom wall.

“Mom, there’s a bullet hole in my wall”

“So my son’s bedroom is on the other side of this wall, the bullet came through and went through this wall as well,” said Christine Dioria. One of the bullets ripped through her 16-year-old son Jason’s bedroom. “I heard what sounded like fireworks, but they weren’t. My son came running out of his bedroom and said, ‘Mom, there’s a bullet hole in my wall.'”

The bullet came through the house where Jason is sitting and playing video games.

“If he was sitting there, he would have gotten hit in the head. Not just his arm or his stomach, but his head as well. And I wouldn’t want my child,” Dioria said.

Police said the shots were fired near Liverpool and Maverick streets around 11 p.m. Several cars were also riddled with bullet holes and broken glass, waking up the neighborhood.

“I heard a bang, bang, I thought it was my house, I got scared,” said Richie Scannelli.

The gunman quickly fled the area

Police said the gunman quickly fled the area. Dioria has lived in East Boston all her life and in the area for the past three years.

“I don’t think my house is a target. I don’t think my neighbor’s house is a target either. I think they’re just stupid people,” Dioria said.

Residents who live in the area say it is generally a quiet and peaceful community. Now they are worried about their safety.

“I want to feel safe. I’ve lived here pretty much all my life and I don’t want to move,” Dioria said.

Dioria is grateful her son was not hit and no one was injured in the shooting, but she said she fears it could happen again. “We should be able to feel safe in our home, but also outside of it, and we don’t do that.”
