Germany’s Siemens Mobility GmbH said on Thursday it has won a major order from Britain’s HS2 high-speed rail project.
Siemens Mobility, a division of Siemens, has announced it has won four contracts worth €670 million ($690.5 million) from HS2 Ltd for key infrastructure and long-term maintenance.
Siemens Mobility will also join key contractors under the Rail Systems Alliance, the company said.
The contracts, which also include a multi-year maintenance agreement and possibly additional options, are expected to start in 2025.
The company will play a role in the delivery and operation of Britain’s new 140-mile high-speed line linking London and the West Midlands.
Siemens Mobility will implement automatic train operations along the European Train Control System Level 2 on a high-speed network, enabling semi-automated train operations for improved capacity, punctuality and energy efficiency, the company said.
Another contract focuses on a technical management system to enable real-time control and monitoring of railway equipment to increase reliability and efficiency.
Siemens Mobility also formed a joint venture with Costain Ltd to supply high voltage power systems along the HS2 route.
Finally, Siemens Mobility said it will lead the implementation of operational telecommunications and security systems for the entire HS2 route.
