SJ man charged with theft after loading store’s vacuum container with copper: DA

(KRON) – Mitchell Bedolla Garcia, 45, of San Jose, is charged with grand larceny for stealing nearly $1,000 worth of copper from a Moraga store on Sept. 3, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office announced.

The theft occurred at Outdoor Supply Hardware at 1500 Moraga’s Canyon Road.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, Garcia stole $1,295 worth of copper wire by putting the rolls of wire in an empty vacuum cleaner box in a store.

After loading the “Shop-Vac” branded box with the rolls of wire, Garcia allegedly taped the box shut “to make it appear unopened” and paid $110 for the vacuum before leaving the store, the DA’s office said.

Two days after the alleged theft, Garcia returned to Outdoor Supply Hardware on Thursday. The district attorney’s office said Garcia walked in and claimed he had some items he “wanted to return.”

The Public Prosecution Service reported that the manager of the OSH store recognized Garcia from security footage and called Moraga police shortly thereafter.

Garcia was arrested and found to have outstanding warrants in other counties. He is currently being held without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility, “awaiting arraignment on the charges,” according to the district attorney’s office.
