A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a hit-and-run after a boating trip that resulted in injuries, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office reported on social media.

According to information from the Thurston County Jail, the man was arrested Friday.

On the afternoon of August 3, officers were dispatched to Carlyon Beach, near Steamboat Island.

“A motorboat collided with a kayak, causing the two occupants to float in the water. The driver of the motorboat, who was alone, continued without stopping to assist,” the Sheriff’s Office said in an earlier social media post.

“A detailed description of the boat allowed our boat officers to locate him. The boat was owned by the operator’s employer, who fully cooperated with the investigation. The suspect has been located and is now facing criminal charges.”

A father and son from Woodinville were in the kayak, Kiro 7 TV reported.

According to the report, Phillip and Anthony Hill were in the water for ten minutes when they saw a boat coming towards them at full speed.

“We were waving our paddles, we were shouting curses and trying to get his attention. We just had to jump and we went forward, I went over the edge under the kayak and the boat went right over the top of the kayak,” Phillip Hill told Kiro 7 TV.

According to the report, the driver fled after destroying the kayak.

According to the report, jet skiers brought the two back to shore, where doctors treated them for cuts and bruises.
