A 66-year-old homeless man sleeping on a sidewalk in Midtown Manhattan was punched, kicked and hit over the head with a fire extinguisher by a group of young goons, leaving the victim clinging to life, police said Thursday.
The attackers, all between the ages of 20 and 30, repeatedly punched and kicked their victim and then hit him in the head with a fire extinguisher during the Aug. 4 attack, police said.
Police released surveillance photos of five suspects Thursday in hopes someone will recognize them. No arrests have been made.
According to police, around 1:20 a.m. the victim was sleeping on the sidewalk on Broadway, near W. 37th St., when the gang attacked him.
After the brutal assault, the attackers ran away via Broadway.
Medics rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he remained in critical condition Thursday.
Officers searching the area found surveillance footage of five suspects, all described as black with a medium build. Nearly all were dressed in all black. One wore a black pullover mask, while another wore a navy beanie.
