(CBS-DETROIT) — Snow returns to the area for another crack during a white Christmas.
The snow will mainly fall after noon on Monday and will last until the evening hours.
The most likely areas for the higher numbers are north of Interstate 696, but especially north of M-59.
Although snowfall will be heavier there, numbers remain lower in terms of storm size, with several inches possible to the north.
The lower snow amounts in our southern provinces are due to the fact that wet snow and freezing rain mixed in the beginning.
While that means less melting to see, both sleet and freezing rain can lead to particularly icy conditions on untreated roads.
Snow will fall for everyone by evening as temperatures drop, making evening commutes slick, especially along and north of the Interstate 96/696 corridor.
Quantities may need to be adjusted as temperatures fluctuate somewhat tonight and Monday morning.
For now, expect slippery conditions in the afternoon and early evening on Monday before warmer air moves in during the holidays.
