Solvita Blood Center has a great need for donors

May 29 – Solvita Blood Center is critically low on Type O and Type B supplies after high hospital utilization over Memorial Day weekend and no blood draws are scheduled for Friday.

The Solvita Dayton Center at 349 S. Main St. is encouraging donations by offering the choice of a free Kings Island e-ticket or a $15 e-gift card now through Saturday.

A critically low level means that current inventory is available for less than three days and Solvita cannot fulfill all hospital orders.

Hospital utilization was high this weekend, with 80 units of blood products used for multiple emergency procedures on May 24 alone, the blood center said.

The summer travel season is also a challenging time for Solvita to register the 350 donors needed daily to supply hospitals in the region. In addition, there were no blood drives on May 24, Solvita was closed in observance of Memorial Day, and there are no upcoming blood drives on Friday.

As a BERC member, Solvita was also required to send units of Type O negative blood to North Texas for tornado victims.

Solvita asks community members to make time to donate or reschedule a missed donation as soon as possible.

To save time, use DonorXPress to complete the donor questionnaire before arriving at the blood center. This can be found in the Donor Time App or at www.solvita.org/donorxpress.
