MONROE, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) – A Michigan museum that displays human skulls and horror memorabilia now has a vial containing the cremated remains of Charles Manson.
Nate Thompson, owner of the Michigan Museum of Horror in Monroe, confirmed on social media earlier this month that they had received Manson’s remains, nearly seven years after his death.
“There are many true crime and horror museums in the world, but not many can say they own Manson himself. I am literally holding him in my hand. Although it is a small bottle, upon inspection you can see the bits of bone and ash inside, which is absolutely insane. This is now on display,” Thompson said in a Sept. 6 post.
Manson, who led a group of followers known as the Manson Family in a series of crimes, died in November 2017 of natural causes at the age of 83. At the time of his death, he was serving nine life sentences.
Manson was convicted of orchestrating the 1969 murders of seven people, known as the Tate-LaBianca murders. Prosecutors say he used his influence to order the killings in an effort to incite race warfare. He and other Family members were also convicted of two other murders.
Manson denied ordering the murders.
The Michigan Museum of Horror, located at 44 S. Monroe St. in Monroe, opened in 2022.
