Son attacks mother with cast-iron skillet after argument over baseball cards, MS officers say

A dispute over baseball cards ended when a woman was hit in the head with a cast-iron skillet, a Mississippi sheriff said. Now the woman’s son is behind bars.

Cedric Demond Ross, 43, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 24, after turning himself in to authorities, according to the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office.

Ross was wanted on domestic violence and aggravated assault charges stemming from the Oct. 21 attack, which left his mother seriously injured and requiring eight staples in the head, officers told McClatchy News.

Authorities said Ross hit his mother with a cast-iron skillet after they argued over baseball cards.

“This behavior will not be tolerated,” the sheriff’s office said at the time.

Deputies did not release any additional information.

Ross remained in custody at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility on Oct. 25 on an $80,000 bond, online records show.

Yazoo City is located about 50 miles northwest of downtown Jackson.
