South Bend woman injured in Goshen-area crash

Sept. 11 – A South Bend woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Ind. 15, north of CR 40 at 2:09 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, a 2017 Ford Transit 350 driven by Ivy Beard, 37, of Albion, was southbound on Ind. 15 and struck the rear of a 2024 Ford Maverick, also side-slapping the Maverick. The Maverick, driven by George Rose, 74, of Goshen, was also southbound and was stopped to make a left turn into a private driveway when the crash occurred.

Neither driver was injured. A passenger in the Maverick, Vivian Kinyon, 73, of South Bend, complained of stomach pains. She was taken to Goshen Hospital for treatment.

RESEARCH CONTINUES

Elkhart County officials are continuing to investigate a single-vehicle crash that injured a Nappanee motorcyclist on Sunday.

Elkhart County troopers say Randall Weaver, 60, of Nappanee was traveling south on Ind. 19 at Ind. 119 at a high rate of speed at 5:56 p.m. when he lost control of the 2011 Victory Kingpin he was driving and struck the guardrail.

Weaver was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with possible life-threatening injuries, including head trauma, broken ribs on his left side, a broken left leg, a broken left arm and lacerations to his head.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH

Elkhart County deputies said Roberto Melendez, 46, of Goshen, was traveling north on Ind. 15 south of CR 126 on a 2010 Harley Davidson at 3:07 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle after driving into the rumble strip in the center of the road.

According to police, Melendez put the bike down. He suffered injuries to his right elbow and complained of back pain.

Melendez was ticketed for driving a vehicle without a license and without any financial responsibility.

COLLISION AND DRIVING ON

—Brayanna Hanson, 27, reported to Elkhart County deputies on Friday that her vehicle collided with a white passenger car that left the scene of the accident.

—Brooke Houser, 32, reported to Elkhart County deputies at 4:11 p.m. Friday that a black pickup truck had struck her 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee while she was driving in the 13000 block of Ind. 120 and had left the scene.

—A 37-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies on Sunday at 7:08 p.m. on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited at the intersection of CR 45 and CR 15.

—A 53-year-old woman was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 9:01 a.m. Friday on suspicion of operating a vehicle without a license, possession of paraphernalia, marijuana and methamphetamine after she was pulled over near Old U.S. 33 and Best Avenue.

—A 31-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 2:30 p.m. Friday on suspicion of marijuana possession and driving under the influence after he was stopped for speeding near U.S. 20 East and Ind. 19.

—A 51-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 7:59 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence after being pulled over for a traffic violation on U.S. 20 near Ind. 19.

—A 60-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 5:59 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury after he was involved in a crash near the intersection of Ind. 15 and Sandy Drive in Goshen.

—A 31-year-old woman was arrested by Elkhart County deputies Saturday night at 8:50 p.m. on charges of resisting police with a vehicle and driving without a license after she was pulled over for a traffic violation near U.S. 20 and Ind. 15.

—A 21-year-old Goshen man was arrested by Goshen police Tuesday at 9:22 p.m. on a charge of harassment. He is accused of threatening a woman in the 2600 block of Ponderosa Court. He was released at the scene with a written promise to appear in court.

—A 37-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies on suspicion of driving on a suspended license after a traffic stop on CRs 45 and 15 Sunday evening at 7:08 p.m. He was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.

ARRONS

—A 20-year-old man reported to Elkhart County police at 10:16 p.m. Sunday that a home in the 700 block of North Hawthorne Street in Bristol had caught fire because of someone he knew.

—A 42-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 9:59 p.m. Saturday night that someone had set fire to a vehicle in the 70000 block of CR 21 in New Paris.

ROAD RAGE

Elkhart County officers investigated two individuals involved in a road rage incident in the area of ​​CR 18 and CR 13 at 1:25 p.m. Monday.

CRIMINAL DEBT

Goshen police were called to Clinton Street and Greenway Drive at 12:38 a.m. Sunday for a damaged yard and street sign.

—The window of a pickup truck was smashed while parked at Life Center Church, 1212 W. Plymouth Ave., Goshen, sometime Monday night, Goshen police said.

VOYEURISM

A 28-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 9:31 p.m. Sunday night that someone was looking in her windows near 400 Post Road.

BURGLARY

—A 61-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between August 30 and September 5, someone broke into a residence in the 50000 block of Ind. 13 and stole a large quantity of copper wire.

—A 68-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between September 4 and 5, someone broke into a business in the 30000 block of CR 10 in Elkhart and numerous power tools were stolen.

THEFT

—A 34-year-old man turned himself in to Elkhart County deputies at 4:22 p.m. Friday. Someone he knew had stolen more than $600 in cash and other items from his white 2006 Ford Expedition. Elkhart police recovered the vehicle.

—A 64-year-old man called Elkhart County police at 8 a.m. Saturday saying someone had stolen his black and silver 2016 Harley Davidson from the 22000 block of Stillwater Court in Elkhart.

—A 21-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that someone had taken his vehicle from the 18000 block of CR 20 in Elkhart Saturday morning.

—A 26-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that someone took her license plate from the 58000 block of Ravenwood Boulevard Sunday night.

FRAUD

A 37-year-old woman reported fraud to Elkhart County deputies between August 6 and September 4.

—A 22-year-old man reported to Elkhart County police at 12:28 a.m. Saturday and found an iPad along the road.

—A 50-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that he had purchased a piece of property in the 29000 block of Lantz Boulevard and that the locks had been changed.
