A South Philadelphia singer who became a teen idol and Hollywood star died Monday at the age of 88. James Darren first came to prominence in the 1960s when he starred in the Gidget films. He went on to act and direct in series such as TJ Hooker, Beverly Hills 90210 and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
