A Monday night game at Lambeau Field against a playoff-bound Packers team would be a tough ask for most quarterbacks, and it’s an especially tough ask for a rookie quarterback leading an offense that’s running of the season has been decimated by injuries.
That was the position Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler found himself in this week, and it became even more difficult when center Erik McCoy left the game early in the game. Rattler finished 15 of 30 for 153 yards and an interception and a lost fumble while being sacked three times in the 34-0 loss.
Rattler praised the Packers’ performance during his postgame press conference and offered no positive side to his own performance.
“Just now embarrassingRattler said, via Rashad Milligan of NOLA.com. ‘Embarrassing loss. I applied it myself. In my opinion I didn’t play well at all. I just didn’t have any answers, I have to take more action, protect the ball and I just have to get better.”
Rattler was a fifth-round pick this year and was expected to learn behind Derek Carr, but Carr’s injuries have forced him into the lineup several times this season. The results were about as dismal as most predicted and the team’s new coaching staff will be tasked with sifting through them to decide if there are still things to build on in the coming years.
