Wednesday’s high temperature of 80 degrees marked another record in the string of recent records. Not only was it a new high temperature record for the day, it also marked the second-to-last 80+ temperature ever recorded in Philadelphia.
We started the month of November in the 80s and reached a high of 81 last Friday. Only two Novembers in Philadelphia history have had multiple 80 degree days; November 1974 had three and November 1950 had two.
The takeaway? This kind of warmth in November is very unusual.

On Thursday, with a cold front in the area, some spotty showers are possible south of the city until noon. There’s a slim chance it could deliver the 0.02 inches of rain needed to end our record dry spell, but it’s more likely it will sizzle like the past four fronts, keeping us dry .
Temperatures will drop to the 60s on Friday under mostly sunny skies, and nice weather will remain into the weekend with a more seasonal high of 60 degrees on Saturday, but that could change through Sunday. As a new system approaches from the west, clouds will increase and showers are possible late Sunday through early Monday. But as has been the case over the past two months, the forecast models start aggressively and by the time the system is in place, it may already fizzle out. We will keep you informed.

We also look at the tropics Raphael is now a Category 2 hurricane crossing Cuba and heading towards the Gulf of Mexico. We may see impacts along the Louisiana Gulf Coast on Sunday, but little to no impacts here in the Delaware Valley.
