Springfield Police Deputy Chief Sara Pickford said the stabbing happened in the 3000 block of Louise Lane, about a minute away. Gristy apparently drove himself.
Pickford said “a person of interest” was quickly located by Springfield police at the Louise Lane location and taken in for questioning.
That person’s relationship to Gristy was not explained in the email.
It is the second homicide in the city this year, following the Keyon Day shooting on April 24 in the 2300 block of Taylor Avenue, across from Dreamland Park.
The investigation continues.
