State police investigate homicide; search for Central KY man who fled

Kentucky State Police are searching for a Franklin County man they believe is a suspect in the death of another man and then fled the scene.

Local and state police are searching for Steven Girtley after finding Justin Girtley dead at a home on Flat Creek Road. Authorities said they are treating the crime as a homicide.

Just before 10 p.m. Saturday, state police responded to the area following an altercation between 36-year-old Justin Girtley and Steven Girtley, state police said.

Troopers found Justin Girtley dead with a gunshot wound, police said. Steven Girtley had fled to a wooded area before troopers arrived.

Justin Girtley died at the scene, according to the Franklin County coroner.

Police are still searching the area for Steven Girtley and are asking anyone with information to contact Post 12 at (502) 227-2221.

State Police did not release Steven Girtley’s age or any identifying information about his physical appearance in their news release. The relationship between the two men is unclear.

State police are assisted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, the Frankfort Police Department and the Versailles Police Department.
