A baby Jesus was found at a firehouse in Fort Collins, Colorado, after going missing from the city’s nativity scene.
Four days after being stolen from the city’s tableau, the baby Jesus statue was anonymously turned over to a fire station on Dec. 19, Fort Collins police shared on Instagram.
Next to the statue was an apology note explaining the violation.
“I’m really sorry, I made a stupid mistake at that moment. It won’t happen again,” the handwritten note reads.
Fort Collins police said the statue was snatched from a nativity scene in Old Town Square, part of downtown Fort Collins. After the theft, police asked the public for help identifying the “Grinch” who “tried to ruin Christmas.”
The nativity scene was restored after the baby statue was turned in to a local fire station.
