Steaming heat and a severe storm threat are moving into the Chicago area

CHICAGO (CBS) — Cool winds off Lake Michigan kept stable air in place in the Chicago area on Sunday. The front is set far to the south for the night.

It will move north as a warm front on Monday, opening the door for steamy heat to enter the area over the next two days. This unstable air mass will fuel storm threats over the next two days.

As the warm front moves north Monday morning, heat and humidity will increase, with temperatures rising into the upper 80s.

MONDAY AFTERNOON 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Severe threat of damaging winds and hail. Also, the slow forward movement of the storms will sometimes cause localized flooding.

TUESDAY MORNING: Heavy rain and thunderstorms. Do not expect severe weather at this time.

TUESDAY SUNSET THROUGH MIDNIGHT: Severe threat of damaging winds and brief tornadoes.

WEDNESDAY: The storm complex moves out Wednesday, leaving a dry and calm pattern for the rest of the work week.
