Stellantis recalls more than 1.2 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks in the US

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall of 1,227,808 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 vehicles in the U.S. from Stellantis, Chrysler’s parent company, due to a software glitch.

The software glitch could cause the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module to disable the electronic stability control system, the recall report said. If a driver operates their vehicle with the electronic stability control system disabled, it could increase the risk of a crash, the report said.

In addition, the automaker said it is recalling 7,299 MOPAR ABS parts that are used as replacement parts in the recalled vehicles.

“FCA is not aware of any related injuries or accidents,” Frank Matyok, a Stellantis spokesman, said in a statement to USA TODAY. “In accordance with regulations, affected customers are being notified by first-class mail. The company urges customers to follow the instructions provided therein.”

The NHTSA said the Ram 1500 “does not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 126, ‘Electronic Stability Control Systems.’”

To resolve the issue, dealers will update the ABS control module software. This service will be performed free of charge. Recall letters are expected to begin shipping on October 3. Owners can contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s recall number for this recall is 85B.

Recalled vehicles:

  • 2019 Ram1500

  • 2021-2024 Ram1500

Matyok said additional Ram 1500s are being recalled in the following countries:
