Steph Curry’s wife and mother wipe away tears after tense standoff with Paris police

Steph Curry’s family has been in conflict with police after he helped the US men’s basketball team win a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

According to a video shared by The Hollywood SolutionThe Golden State Warriors player’s wife, Ayesha Curry, and his mother, Sonya Curry, were spotted with fellow Warriors player Draymond Green while speaking to police in Paris, France. The clip showed Ayesha crying as her mother-in-law spoke to the officers, who reportedly stopped the family from getting into their car.

Ayesha was seen carrying the couple’s youngest son, Caius, while another child, who appeared to be Curry’s eldest son, Canon, walked around with a flag around his shoulders. “Look, they won’t let us go back where we came from,” Sonya told officers, pointing to a location far from the camera. “They won’t let the driver come here, and they won’t let us go back there.”

An officer came to translate for the Paris officers and at one point he could be heard saying, “Sorry about the baby.” It is not clear at this time what happened before the incident.

Although Steph was not seen in the video, his teammate Green appeared to intervene as he was heard in the background saying, “So, even after he hit the baby in the head, there’s still nothing you guys can do to get them out of here?”

According to reports, Ayesha and her family were not allowed to get to their car because “the president” was passing by and “no one is allowed to cross the street until he is dead,” someone in the clip said.

The Independent has reached out to representatives for Steph and Ayesha for comment.

Steph’s family attended the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to watch him play for Team USA men’s basketball. During their gold medal-winning game against France on August 10, Team USA defeated the host country by 11 points, with a final score of 98 to 87. Twenty-four of those points were scored by Steph in the game, including four three-pointers in the final three minutes of the game.

“I’ve seen that from Steph a few times, but it never gets old,” Team USA and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game. “It’s a global game with a lot of great players, but we still think we have the best players. They’ve all been so unselfish through it all, through all the noise, through all the pressure. We might be the only team in the world where the fans are embarrassed for them when they win a silver medal, and that’s the pressure we have to deal with.

“But our players — and you saw Steph — they love the pressure. They appreciate this atmosphere and they were fantastic,” he said.

Steph and Ayesha married in 2011 and have four children together: daughters Riley, 12, and Ryan, nine, and sons Canon, six, and Caius, three months. Ayesha announced her pregnancy with her youngest child earlier this year in a cover interview with Sweet July Magazine.

“What’s interesting is my doctor appointments,” she explained to the outlet about her most recent pregnancy. “I’m in my 30s, so there’s all this paperwork that refers to the experience as a ‘geriatric pregnancy’ and all the concerns that come with that.”

“I think there’s something that needs to be more nuanced when it comes to women, their age, and conversations about having children,” she added. “A lot of women in their 30s and 40s are going through this for the first time, and it feels alarming and wild to be told that you’re ‘old.’ I think the narrative needs to be changed a little bit.”
