Steph happy Warriors won ‘bragging rights’ against Poole, Wizards originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Steph Curry wants Jordan Poole to succeed with the Washington Wizards, but not against the Warriors.
Following Golden State’s 125-112 win over the Wizards on Monday at Capital One Arena, Curry reflected on a tense match against his former Warriors teammate that even included some in-game taunts.
“It’s always great to see teammates and good friends,” Curry told Festus Ezeli, Chris Mullin and Bonta Hill on “Warriors Postgame Live” after the win. “Roots for [Poole] try to make something of it [Wizards] organization and with this opportunity here to lead. He’s playing a lot better than last year, feels comfortable, so I’m just excited for him.
“I mean, it’s just what, his fifth year? The sky’s the limit for him. I know they have a lot of young guys, and you can tell he’s playing with joy, he’s playing with flash, the same old JP that we I’m just glad we got the win and the bragging rights this time.”

Poole tied Curry for the highest point total Monday with 24 on 8-of-20 shooting and 2-of-10 from 3-point range — including a triple over Draymond Green’s outstretched hand, resulting in a back-and-forth pointing fest between Poole and the Warriors forward.
Despite a complicated history between Poole and Green after the Golden State veteran infamously punched his then-teammate two years ago, all the taunting seemed like a lot of fun as Curry and Poole hugged after the game.
And after the Warriors’ win, Curry even wrote a note to Poole on his game-worn Golden State jersey.
Steph Curry signed a personal message on his game-worn jersey tonight and had it passed to Jordan Poole in the Wizards’ locker room.
I couldn’t see what it said, but Curry took a few minutes to write the note.

Poole struggled during his first Wizards season after the Warriors traded him to Washington before the 2023-24 season. His numbers have improved across the board thus far during the 2024-2025 NBA season, and Curry is certainly hoping the former Golden State guard will make the most of his Wizards tenure.
And despite Poole having some fun with Curry and Green on Monday night, it was ultimately the Warriors who had the last laugh.
